Baseball Travels To Jacksonville For Weekend Series
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont baseball team (16-10, 4-2) travels to Jacksonville this weekend to challenge the Dolphins (11-15, 1-2) to a three-game Atlantic Sun Conference series. The Bruins will look to reverse the recent JU success, as Belmont has dropped six of the last seven games between the two squads.
Belmont is coming off of its second straight A-Sun series win, defeating then No. 15 Stetson in two out of three games last weekend. The Bruins did it with offense – scoring 23 runs on the Hatters on Friday – as well as pitching – shutting Stetson out 5-0 on Saturday. The Bruins will attempt to continue their hot streak, building on the run of eight wins over their last 11 contests.
Jacksonville, which was picked to finish second in the league in the preseason coaches' poll, has been struggling by its own high standards, welcoming Belmont to town with a record of 11-15. The Dolphins recently fell at College of Charleston by a score of 16-3, allowing 12 runs in the opening frame. Preseason A-Sun Player of the Year Adam Brett Walker isn't putting up the staggering numbers he did in 2011, but he has recorded an average of .293, nine doubles, and 19 RBI.
The first game of the series will be Friday at 5:30 p.m. CT, Saturday's contest will be at 12:00 p.m. CT, and Sunday's final game is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. CT. All three tilts will be available on the Bruins Sports Network with play-by-play from Rich Tiner. Fans can also follow live stats at JUDolphins.com.
