Baseball Receives Votes in National Preseason Poll
NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Collegiate Baseball Newspaper released its NCAA Division I preseason poll, which features Belmont University receiving votes.
The University of Arkansas took the top spot with the North Carolina Tarheels ranked second to start the season. The Bruins crosstown rival, Vanderbilt rounds out the top three.
Behind a five hit, four RBI performance from Tournament MVP Judah Akers (Cookeville, Tenn.), the Bruins defeated Kennesaw State, 10-4 in the Atlantic Sun title game, to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The team set a school record with 39 wins and its second consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Bruins 2013 schedule features several teams who received votes in the poll, including Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Valparaiso and Mercer. Conference foe Austin Peay, also received votes in the poll.
Belmont opens the season on February 15 against Valparaiso at Rose Park.
