NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont Baseball (21-6, 8-1) defeated Evansville, 3-1 Wednesday at Rose Park in the team's midweek contest.
With the win, the Bruins extended their win streak to eight games.
In the bottom of the second, Drew Turner (Shelbyville, Tenn.) hit a one-out triple to left center to get things started for the Bruins. The senior right fielder was the first Bruin to reach 30 hits on the season.
Josh Davis (Fayetteville, Ga.) led off the fourth with a double to left. Turner singled out to center to score Davis and put the Bruins on the scoreboard first, 1-0.
Evansville responded in the fifth as the tying run crossed the plate behind a sacrifice fly from Kyle Pollock.
Matt Beaty (Dresden, Tenn.) reached on an error to start the sixth and stole second for his first stolen base of the season. Scott Moses (Englewood, Tenn.) laid down a bunt to advance Beaty to third and Dom Veltri's (Clarksville, Tenn.) safety squeeze scored Beaty putting BU ahead 3-1.
Turner and Moses led the team with two hits each.
James Buckelew (Lawrenceville, Ga.) earned the start going three innings. He gave up just one hit and struck out three. Moses earned his second win of the season after two innings of work. He matched his season high of two strikeouts.
Davis earned his ninth save moving him into the eighth spot for saves in a single season.
Belmont travels to UT Martin this weekend for a three-game conference series. The first game of the series begins Friday with the first pitch scheduled for 6:00p.m.
