Chase Brookshire Tabbed Senior CLASS Award Finalist

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Chase Brookshire (Chattanooga, Tenn.) has been named one of 10 baseball finalists for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award.

All finalists excel both on and off the field; with notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

Brookshire boasts a 1.15 ERA and 3-1 record on the season after 47 innings of work. The left hander has struck out 47 thus far and has held opponents to a .193 batting average. 

The Chattanooga native earned the victory in Belmont's first ever NCAA Regional win, striking out six and allowing one earned run on two hits in eight innings of work against Oklahoma State. For his performance in the 2011 NCAA Regionals, Brookshire earned All-Tournament team honors and was named the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Tournament Team.  

At this years Bruins' Choice Awards, Brookshire picked up several accolades including the Presidential Scholar Athlete of the Year, Betty Wiseman Inspiration Award, the Academic Achievement Award (awarded to the member of each team with the highest GPA), and the Graduating Senior Academic Achievement Award (awarded to a male or female graduating student-athletes with the highest GPA).

For his performance on the field, Brookshire was honored with Belmont's Male Athlete of the Year award for the 2011-12 academic year. In 2010 he received the Dave Whitten Pitching Award.

Off the field, Brookshire has made the Dean's List (3.50 GPA or higher) each term since 2010. He earned Atlantic Sun Academic All-Conference honors for the last three years. Brookshire, who was appointed as the baseball team representative, has also served on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for over two years and currently serves as the co-president of SAAC.
During Brookshire's junior year, he and fellow teammate Judah Akers felt the need to grow a stronger community for Christian athletes at Belmont, surmising Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) was the perfect organization to connect with. Brookshire currently serves at the president and co-founder of Belmont's FCA group.

In the community, Brookshire has volunteered with the Nashville Rescue Mission, Camp Bruin and Belmont Baseball clinics for high school baseball players during his time at Belmont. 

The finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 30 candidates announced in February. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website or on the Senior CLASS Award Facebook fan page through June 10. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2013 NCAA College World Series® in Omaha June 15-26.
