NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont Baseball standout Josh Davis (Fayetteville, Ga.) has signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Cubs.
Davis was one of 11 Division I players to remain on the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Watch List midway through the 2013 season.
"I'm so happy and excited for Josh," said head coach Dave Jarvis. "This is well deserved with all his hard work and development over the last four years. It's great to see him earn this opportunity."
Davis will head to Mesa, Ariz. to the Cubs' complex before reporting to Boise, Ida. to play with the Boise Hawks, the Short Season Class A Affiliate of the Cubs.
The right hander tossed 44.2 innings of relief this season, posting a 5-2 record. He also recorded 12 saves this season, good for third in the OVC and third-most in a single-season in Belmont history.
At the end of the season, Davis hit .293 with 43 hits, 24 runs batted in and 12 doubles.
Davis was also named to the National Pitcher of the Year Watch List and the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List.
