Buckelew's Masterpiece Sets Down Skyhawks Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Behind an outstanding performance from senior James Buckelew, the Bruins defeated UT Martin, 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Rose Park.

A triple from Tyler Walsh in the bottom of the third put the Bruins on the board, 1-0, as Zach Hald crossed the plate. Drew Ferguson's sacrifice fly scored Walsh, extending BU's lead, 2-0.

Brennan Washington had an infield single and advanced on a sacrifice bunt from Hald in the bottom of the seventh. Ferguson singled to center to score Washington and put Belmont on top 3-0.

Buckelew held the Skyhawks hitless through 8.2 innings. The left-hander registered a career high eight strikeouts.

UT Martin scored an unearned run in the top of the ninth, but Greg Brody struck out the only man he faced to secure the win, picking up his fifth save, and completing the combined no-hitter.

Belmont will conclude the series with UT Martin tomorrow at 1:00pm.
