Texas League All-Stars

Texas League All-Stars

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A pair of former Belmont baseball standouts, Matt Beaty and Drew Ferguson, have been named to the 81st Texas League All-Star game. The duo was selected in the 2015 MLB Draft and have continued to flourish with their respective teams.

Beaty, playing for the Tulsa Drillers – the Double A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers – will represent the North Division. The Dresden, Tenn. product has taken on the role of utility during his third year in the minors playing first base, second base, third base and in the outfield during the first half of the season. He's hitting .297 while delivering 12 doubles and slugging five home runs.

While at BU, Beaty became the first Bruin baseball player in the Division I era to earn All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball. The Dresden, Tennessee native also earned All-OVC First Team and All-OVC All-Tournament honors during his senior campaign. Among other awards Beaty was named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy, awarded to the Division I National Player of the Year and was an integral part of Belmont's success over his four-year career. All told, Beaty ranks among Belmont career leaders in hits, doubles, triples, home runs, total bases, runs batted in, and walks.

Ferguson was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 19th round and currently plays for its Double A affiliate, the Corpus Christi Hooks. The Knoxville, Tenn. native has served as the Hooks' lead-off man while batting .292 with 12 doubles, six home runs and 24 RBIs. He also carved his name in the Corpus Christi record book having reached base safely in 23 consecutive games (April 29-May 26), the second most in the club's history. During that strech, he hit .391 with 15 runs, five doubles, four home runs, 10 RBIs and registered a .480 on-base percentage.

During his time with the Bruins, Ferguson led the squad in multiple offensive statistics – batting average, runs, hits, doubles and triples - during his final season. The 2015 Belmont alum garnered a slew of awards for his record-breaking performances during his senior campaign. Ferguson was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-America Team, American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) First Team All-South Region and All-OVC First Team. A two-time All-OVC selection, Ferguson ranked in the Top-15 nationally in a staggering nine offensive categories during his senior year. He currently holds the top spot in the All-Time Belmont single season record book in runs scored, hits and doubles.

The game will be played on Tuesday, June 27 in Frisco, Texas at the Dr. Pepper Ballpark.
