Game Notes - Northern State, Don Meyer Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont Basketball opens its 2010-11 campaign at home, hosting Northern State in the Don Meyer
Classic.

The game honors Meyer, the legendary college basketball coach who led Northern State and Lipscomb to unparalled success, and coincides with a book release on Meyer by ESPN reporter Buster Olney. Olney has been a close friend of Meyer's for over two decades, having covered Meyer's Lipscomb teams for the Nashville Banner.

Meyer retired following the 2009-10 and left as the winningest coach in college basketball history with 923 career victories.

On the court, Belmont returns 11 of its top 12 scorers from a team that went 19-12 and earned a share of the Atlantic Sun Conference regular season title a year ago. Sophomore Ian Clark was the 2009-10 Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year and was a Freshman Mid Major All-American.

Belmont agreed to host the Don Meyer Classic after a scheduling conflict arose at Lipscomb.

Northern State has acquitted itself well in exhibitions at Oklahoma and Creighton this season.
