Men's Basketball Faces North Florida Saturday
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - - Belmont Basketball visits North Florida Saturday night to complete a two-game road trip to the Sunshine State.
Belmont defeated Jacksonville, 76-70, Thursday night. Kerron Johnson led four Bruins in double figures with a career-high tying 15 points, while Scott Saunders tallied his third career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Saunders and fellow junior post player Mick Hedgepeth have been a strong 1-2 punch for the Bruins inside. The pair averages a combined 21.1 points and 11.4 rebounds per game on 55 percent shooting. Saunders and Hedgepeth were each named Academic All-District Thursday.
Belmont head coach Rick Byrd has utilized his deep and talented bench from the outset, and it has reaped major dividends. The Bruins have 11 players averaging double figure minutes, with a 12th player (Adam Barnes) having seen action in 21 games.
The Bruins defeated North Florida, 91-59, Jan. 8 in Nashville.
