NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont men's basketball continues its final week of regular season play Thursday at Kennesaw State.
Belmont forced 21 turnovers and handed out 18 assists in defeating USC Upstate, 88-79, Feb. 20. Junior Kerron Johnson led five Bruins in double figures with 19 points. With the victory, the Bruins secured at least a share of their third consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference regular season championship, and fifth in the last seven years.
Belmont redshirt junior Brandon Baker (Milford, Ohio) recorded career-highs in scoring (16) and rebounding (9) vs. Kennesaw State (12/1/11). Belmont senior Mick Hedgepeth (Crossville, Ala.) had a career-high tying 12 rebounds vs. Kennesaw State (12/1/11).
Belmont junior Kerron Johnson (Huntsville, Ala.) set a Bruin single-game record with nine steals at Kennesaw State (2/26/11). Belmont has two roster members from the Atlanta area, sophomore J.J. Mann (Smyrna, Ga.) and redshirt freshman Chad Lang (Marietta, Ga.).
Over its last eight games, Belmont is averaging 87.6 points per game on 52.0 percent shooting, with six players averaging double figure scoring. In Atlantic Sun Conference games, Belmont is averaging a halftime lead of 12.8 points per game: 42.2 to 29.4.
This marks the 14th meeting between Belmont and Kennesaw State. The Bruins hold an 11-2 series lead, which includes victory earlier this season in Nashville.
