NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball will play at Georgia Wednesday, March 15 in the first round of the 2017 Postseason NIT, it was announced Sunday night.
This year, Belmont (22-6) claimed its ninth regular season conference championship since 2006, third only to Kansas and Gonzaga over that span. The Bruins have made seven NCAA Tournament appearances during that stretch.
The Bruins' 235 conference victories since 2003 are second-most nationally, one shy of the aforementioned Jayhawks.
Belmont is vying to join the elite company of BYU, Gonzaga, Saint Mary's (CA), San Diego State, VCU, and Wichita State as programs outside the Power 5 to post Top 100 RPIs seven consecutive seasons.
This marks Belmont's 11th postseason appearance in the last 12 years.
This also marks the fourth meeting between Belmont and Georgia.
Coincidentally, the Bruins and Bulldogs played in the first round of last year's Postseason NIT. Despite five Bruins scoring in double figures, Yante Maten scored a career-high 33 points as Georgia won, 93-84, at Stegeman Coliseum.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
