NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball returns to game action Sunday at Georgia Tech in the second round of the 2017 Postseason NIT.
Former Belmont All-American and current Golden State Warriors guard Ian Clark ('13) took part in the 2013 National 3-Point Championship at McCamish Pavilion.
Speaking of Clark, senior Evan Bradds (Jamestown, Ohio) is nine points shy of Clark's Belmont NCAA Division I era scoring mark of 1,920 points. Bradds has 1,911 career points.
Belmont head coach Rick Byrd and Georgia Tech head coach Josh Pastner have met on one previous occasion. Belmont played at No. 10 Memphis in Pastner's third season, with the host Tigers winning 97-81 in the EA Sports Maui Invitational (11/15/11).
Belmont regularly made trips to the state of Georgia during its time in the Atlantic Sun Conference (2002-13), facing the likes of Georgia State, Mercer, and Kennesaw State.
Belmont has one victory over Atlantic Coast Conference competition, one of the biggest in program history. The Bruins defeated six-time National Champion North Carolina, 83-80, Nov. 17, 2013. Belmont snapped North Carolina's 66-game home court win streak over non-con-ference opponents dating back to 2005 and became the first unranked team to win at the Dean E. Smith Center since 2002. Belmont also had close shaves against Duke (2008) and Virginia (2015) in the NCAA Tournament.
This is the first meeting between Belmont and Georgia Tech.
Tip-off is set for Noon ET/11 a.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN and the WatchESPN app. The live play-by-play of Voice of the Bruins Kevin Ingram can be heard on the Bruin Sports Network. In-game updates will be available via Twitter @BelmontMBB.
