Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at the Rain-Shortened Samford Invitational

ONEONTA, Ala. – The Belmont men's golf team finished in fifth place at the rain-shortened Samford Invitational held this week at Limestone Springs Golf Club in Oneonta, Alabama.

After the second round was completed Tuesday morning, the teams were approximately four or five holes shy of completing the third round of play before rain and lightning ended play.  Thus, second round results will be the final results of the tournament.

As a team, Belmont shot a score of 293 in the second round to move up to fifth place with a 36-hole mark of 593.  The tournament champion was Central Arkansas, who posted a score of 562.

The Bruins had two golfers finish in the top-30.  Sophomore Elliott Wickenden shot a career-low 68 in the second round to finish in a tie for fourth place with a 36-hole score of 141.  His fourth place finish also was a career-best.  Also in the top-30, was senior Dan Smith, who tied for 24th place with a score of 149.  Other Belmont scores include: Max Marley (T-32nd, 150), Logan Hance (t-47th, 153), and Ben Simpson (87th, 167).

The men's golf team will be back in action this Friday-Sunday, March 11-13, at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in Pinehurst, NC.
