Men's Golf Stands 6th after the First Round of the A-Sun Championship

BRASELTON, Ga.  – The Belmont men's golf stands in sixth place after the first round of the 2011 Atlantic Sun Championship held Monday at the Chateau Course at the Chateau Elan Club in Braselton, Georgia.

 

Belmont finished the day in sixth place after posting a team score of 291 (+7) in Monday's first round.  They are 11 shots behind tournament leader Kennesaw State and six shots behind the trio of teams in second place: USC Upstate, North Florida, and Campbell.

 

Two Bruins are among the top-25 in the individual standings.  Senior Dan Smith shot a two-under par 69 on Monday to finish the day tied for fourth place.  He is three shots behind the individual leader, Matthew Hopper of USC Upstate, who carded a 66 on Monday.  Freshman Max Markley is tied for 21st place after day one after posting a 73 (two-over par).  Other Belmont scores from day one include: sophomore Elliott Wickenden (T-31st, 74), Logan Hance (T-35th, 75), and Ben Simpson (T-47th, 77).

 

The second round of the championship will begin Tuesday morning at 7:00am CT.
