LEXINGTON, Ky. – In their first tournament of the season, the Belmont men's golf team finished eighth among a field of 15 teams at this weekend's UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational held at the University Club in Lexington, Kentucky. In addition, junior Elliott Wickenden tied for seventh place in the individual standings.
Belmont shot a final round score of 296 to finish the tournament in eighth place with a 54-hole total of 895. They finished 31 shots behind tournament champion and host Kentucky, who shot an 864.
The Bruins had two players among the top-25. Junior Elliott Wickenden posted his second top-10 finish of his career as he finished in a tie for seventh place. He carded a three-over par 74 on Sunday to finish with a 54-hole score of 217. In his first collegiate event, freshman Ted Moon shot a 73 on Sunday to finish tied for 21st place with a three-round total of 220. Other Belmont scores included: junior Ben Simpson (T-33rd, 225), freshman Adam Sanders (T-71st, 233), and freshman Chris Thurman (86th, 246). The individual medalist for the event was Bosten Miller of Marshall, who shot a 54-hole score of 211.
The men's golf team is back in action next weekend, September 23-25, at the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tennessee.
