Tarr Named A-Sun Freshman of the Year
MACON, Ga. - Belmont freshman Brandon Tarr (Knoxville, Tenn.) was named the 2009 Atlantic Sun's Freshman of the Year. He was also honored by being selected onto the 2009 A-Sun's Second-Team All-Conference and All-Freshman Team. Tarr is the first Bruin to have been awarded Freshman of the Year.
Tarr made quite an impression in his first year as a Bruin netting eight goals and 2 assists for a total of 18 points. His goals ranked second in the A-Sun behind only Stetson's Griffin Gilstrap. His goals per game and points per game were tops in the A-Sun while his 1.38 points per game ranks 28th nationally in that category.
Tarr's season included several accolades including recognition on the Mafiaoza's Invitational All-Tournament Team. He was also named to TopDrawerSoccer's National Team of the Week after scoring 3 goals and assisted on another in two games against UNF and Jacksonville.
"He's lethal in the box. He's a goal scorer. When he got a chance to go forward he's relentless. He's got a great competitive spirit that will help us tremendously moving forward," said Coach Davidson. "I think he's completely deserving [of the A-Sun Freshman of the Year honor]. He's had an impact very quickly. It's a good freshman class in the conference, and I think that Brandon deserved to be on top as the Freshman of the Year."
