NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - The Belmont men's soccer team (3-4-0) concludes its four game road trip with a 6:00 p.m. contest at Duquesne Saturday night. The Bruins recently recorded a runner-up finish at the Hyatt Place Select Invitational last weekend after defeating UNC Asheville and falling to UAB.
Belmont snapped a two game losing streak with its 2-1 victory over UNC Asheville in final day action of the Hyatt Place Select Invitational at Lipscomb on September 19. Freshmen Diego Figueroa (Pensacola, Fla.) and Cody Stratton (Fort Worth, Texas) scored goals for the Bruins, who finished as runners-up in the tournament after recording a 1-1 record on the weekend.
Duquesne has begun the season with a 3-3-0 record in 2010. The Dukes have beaten Robert Morris, Saint Joseph's and Army, while falling to St. Francis (PA), Detroit and most recently #15 Michigan State. The Spartans topped Duquesne 2-1 on Wednesday night. Freshman forward Simon Gomez leads the Dukes with five goals and one assist, while senior Stefan Lundberg has added three goals and two helpers in the first six matches for Duquesne.
The Bruins and the Dukes have yet to play each other in Belmont's NCAA Division I history. The only Atlantic 10 (Duquesne's conference) team that Belmont has every competed against is Dayton. BU has a 0-1-1 record against the Flyers. On Saturday, the Bruins are looking for their first victory over an A-10 squad.
After the match versus Duquesne, Belmont will return to the Whitten Soccer Complex to host the first Atlantic Sun weekend of the season. The Bruins will welcome Stetson to campus on October 1 for a 3:00 p.m. match before playing host to Florida Gulf Coast on October 3 at 12:05 p.m.
