Men's Soccer Hosts Mafiaoza's Invitational This Weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's soccer team (1-2-0) returns home this weekend to host the Mafiaoza's Invitational at E.S. Rose Park. The Bruins will take on Georgia Southern (1-1-1) on Friday and VMI (0-3-0) on Sunday. Cross-town rival Lipscomb will also be in competition over the weekend.

Georgia Southern was 3-11-3 a year ago and has compiled a mark of 1-1-1 through three contests in 2011. The Eagles defeated A-Sun member North Florida 5-0 to start the season, dropped a road contest to Winthrop, and then tied Gardner-Webb 1-1 on September 3. Witt Carlisle and Luigi Clendining have both tallied three goals for Georgia Southern, while the latter has added four assists in the early going.

The Virginia Military Academy was 3-12-2 in 2010, and has yet to record a win in three tilts this season. The Keydets have fallen to NC State, Army, and NJIT in the early going, finally scoring two goals in their most recent contest. Aaron White and Stewart Wilkinson each tallied scores against NJIT, while Taylor Feuerstein has tallied 23 saves in the three contests of 2011.

The Bruins dropped a pair of games against Conference USA foes this past week, falling to Memphis at home by a score of 3-2, and then dropping a road tilt at #16 UCF by a score of 3-1. Senior Edgardo Padilla (Grapevine, Texas), sophomore Nico Olsak (Boca Raton, Fla.), and junior Brandon Tarr (Knoxville, Tenn.) each scored goals during the two games.

While Belmont will not play Lipscomb this weekend, it is worth mentioning that the Bruins hold an 8-5-2 advantage over the Bisons in the all-time series. BU has yet to take on Georgia Southern in the NCAA era, and holds a 0-1-1 record against VMI in the all-time series.
