NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's soccer team (2-3-0) will once again being playing a tournament at Rose Park this weekend, this time it will be hosted by Lipscomb University. The Bruins will take on Bowling Green (4-1-0) on Friday at 3:30 p.m., and then play against IPFW (3-4-0) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
The Bruins went 1-1 as hosts of the Mafiaoza's Invitational last weekend. Belmont fell to eventual champion Georgia Southern by a score of 1-0 on Friday night, and then defeated VMI 2-1 on Sunday to take second place in the tournament. Senior Edgardo Padilla (Grapevine, Texas), as well as junior Lou Manning (Southlake, Texas) and Pedro Miranda (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) earned All-Tournament Team accolades for their performances over the weekend.
Bowling Green has played well early, coming to Nashville with a record of 4-1-0. The Falcons played their first three games at home, defeating Michigan and IPFW, while falling to Cleveland State. Bowling Green then won both of their contests at the Pitt/Nike Invitational, topping Duquesne and Pittsburgh by 1-0 scores. Danny Baraldi and Rodcliff Hall have each scored twice in 2011, while goalkeepers Michael Wiest and Miguel Rosales have allowed only two goals in five tilts.
IPFW has compiled a 3-4-0 record over its first seven contests in 2011. The Mastodons opened the season with a 3-1 road win at Milwaukee. Two of IPFW's four losses have come at the hands of ranked opponents in #15 Kentucky and #24 Xavier, and one of the other two was to Lipscomb Invitational challenger Bowling Green. Max Trouloute leads the Mastodons with seven goals and three assists in only five games played. Colin Helmrich has added five goals and one assist.
While Belmont will not play Lipscomb this weekend, it is worth mentioning that the Bruins hold an 8-5-2 advantage over the Bisons in the all-time series. BU has yet to take on either Bowling Green of IPFW in the history of the programs.
