Nashville, Tenn. – The Belmont men's tennis team opens up its 2010 fall season this weekend at the UNC-Greensboro Fall Invitational in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The Bruins return five starters from last year's squad who went 8-12 and reached the first round of Atlantic Sun Championship before losing to North Florida. Leading the way for the Bruins is a trio of juniors from Brazil. Rodrigo Amaral had another solid season in 2009-10, leading the team with 15-12 overall record and an A-Sun mark of 7-3. Renato Antun and Rafael Matos ranked second on the team in wins as they each posted 13.
The team hopes to repeat the success from last year's visit to Greensboro. During last year's UNCG Invitational, two Bruins advanced deep in their singles flight. Rafael Matos won three matches in his flight before falling in the finals to Yaroslav Vitas of host UNC-Greensboro in three sets. Renato Antun won two matches and placed fourth in his flight after losing in the semifinals to Arsell Kumderelli of host UNC-Greensboro.
The tournament begins on Friday and continues through Sunday. For more information on the event, go to the UNC-Greensboro website at www.uncgspartans.com.
