Men's Tennis Has a Successful Weekend at the River Forest Invitational
RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Belmont men's tennis team had a successful weekend of play at the River Forest Invitational held Friday-Saturday at the River Forest Tennis Club in River Forest, Illinois. The tournament was a round-robin event featuring three teams: Belmont, Illinois-Chicago, and Western Illinois.
In singles, the Bruins were led by juniors Rodrigo Amaral and Rafael Matos who both went undefeated in their four matches. Amaral beat Nate Kirk of Illinois-Chicago 6-2, 7-5 on Friday and then on Saturday he defeated Dave Robare of Illinois-Chicago 7-5, 6-2, Patrick Hammer of Western Illinois 6-2, 6-1, and Jeff Cote of Western Illinois 6-3, 6-0. Matos beat Camilo Giraldo of Illinois-Chicago 6-3, 6-4 on Friday and then defeated Illinois-Chicago's Nicolas Ospina 1-6, 6-2, 13-11, Western Illinois' Jim Capalbo in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, and Mandela Shepherd of Western Illinois 6-1, 6-0.
On the doubles side, Belmont went 3-2 in their matches. The duo of Renato Antun and Rafael Matos defeated Camilo Giraldo and Dave Robare of Illinois-Chicago 8-3, but fell to Kirk of Shepardson of Illinois-Chicago 8-6. Rodrigo Amaral and Felipe Cirne Lima beat Rahul Kamath and Gautham Oroskar of Illinois-Chicago 8-6 and defeated Reifer and Marginean of Illinois-Chicago 8-6.
This tournament wraps up the fall season for the Belmont men's tennis team. The Bruins will start their spring season on February 19 as they host Samford.
