Brian Baker Earns a Berth in Next Month's U.S. Open

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont men's tennis assistant coach Brian Baker will be included in the main draw of next month's U.S. Open Tennis Championships in New York City.

Baker earned an automatic berth to his fourth U.S. Open based on his world ranking.  The top 101 players earned automatic spots into the main draw of tennis' final Grand Slam event of the year.  This week, Brian is ranked 79th in the world. 

Brian last appeared in the U.S. Open in 2005.  In that event, he lost in the second round to Xavier Malisse after beating #9 seeded Gastion Gaudio in straight sets in round one.

This year's championship will be held August 27-September 9.

In other news involving the Nashville native:

In this week's BB&T Atlanta Open, Brian fell in the first round to Igor Kunitsyn of Russia in three sets: 6-4, 6-7, 6-3.  His next tournament has yet to be determined.

In addition, he has signed a contract to be represented by Octagon Tennis Management, a well- known sports marketing corporation.
