NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's tennis team opens up their 2013 spring season on Saturday as they play at #19 Tennessee.
The Bruins enter their spring season led by a pair of seniors from Brazil. Senior Fernando Mussolini leads the team with a 5-3 singles record, which included winning Flight #3 at the River Forest Invitational in September. Fellow senior Henrique Norbiato posted s 5-4 singles mark in the fall and reached the consolation finals at the Louisville tournament and the consolation quarterfinals at the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals.
Mussolini and Norbiato were also the highlights of the team's play in doubles last fall. The duo went 2-1 and reached the finals of their flight at the River Forest Invitational.
The start of the spring season also sees the addition of two new freshmen to the roster: Brazilian Hans Nardelli and Navarro Veys of Belgium. Each had successful junior careers in their native countries before joining the program earlier this month.
The match with Tennessee will be the first time the two schools have met on the tennis court. The Vols are already 2-0 on the season after beating Alabama-Huntsville and Tennessee Tech on Thursday. The match is set to start on Saturday afternoon at 1:30pm CT in Knoxville.
