Another Record Falls as Frye is Tabbed Atlantic Sun Field Athlete of the Week

MACON, Ga. – Propelled by another record breaking performance over the weekend, senior Belmont men's track and field thrower Joe Frye (Roscommon, Mich.) has been named Atlantic Sun Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday.  It marks the seventh time in his career he has received the honor.

Frye bested the Belmont hammer throw record he shattered one year ago, hitting 59.00m (193'7") to win the event by more than two feet at the Alabama Relays.  He also took third in the shot put (15.54m) and fourth in the discus (46.42m) at the meet.  The previous day at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invitational, the Roscommon, Mich., continued to dominate the throwing events, winning the discus (47.23) and taking third in the hammer throw (56.31m).

Frye's mark in the shot put is the second best in the Atlantic Sun while his record breaking mark in the hammer tops the league's throwers.  His hammer mark is also 29th best among all Division I throwers.

Frye and the rest of the Belmont men's track and field team return to action on April 9 at the Boston-Moon Classic hosted by Tennessee State.
