Frye Narrowly Misses Advancing to NCAA Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Despite advancing to the finals at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in the hammer throw, senior Joe Frye (Roscommon, Mich.) was edged from moving on to the NCAA Outdoor National Championships.  He finished 14th overall in a field of nearly 50 competitors on Friday afternoon.

Frye advanced out of the second flight where he was seeded sixth with a mark of 60.95m (200'00") on his final attempt.  It was the second-best throw of his career as a Bruin.  Unfortunately, it was just over a foot and a half short of qualifying him for the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa next month.  Only the top 12 overall competitors move on in the event.
