Bridger-Wilkinson Qualifies for Great Britain Olympic Trials in 1500m
BEDFORD, England – Belmont men's track and field Marcus Bridger-Wilkinson (Newbury, England) continues to extend his sophomore campaign, recently competing at the England Athletics Aviva U23 and U20 Championships & World Trials. With his posted time, Bridger-Wilkinson qualified to compete at the 2012 Aviva Olympic Trials for Great Britain this weekend.
Bridger-Wilkinson finished second in his heat of the U23 1,500-meter run to advance to the finals in the event, where he finished third overall with a time of 3:47.53.
His time helped him qualify for his country's Olympic Trials slated for this weekend in Birmingham, England at Birmingham Alexander Stadium. Bridger-Wilkinson will compete against 59 other runners, including some of the best in the world, in the 1,500m. Heats in the event begin on Friday, June 22 at approximately 2:25pm CT.
"This year, I have been invited to compete to gain experience so that in 2016, when I will hopefully have a chance of been selected for the Great Britain team, I will know what to expect at the trials," Bridger-Wilkinson said. "This weekend will also be a great opportunity to gain championship experience in a fast, tactical race as I will be competing against world class athletes such as Mo Farah, world 10,000m champion, and Andy Baddeley, 1500m Olympic Finalist. My main goal is to run a PR but if I were to make it through to the final on Saturday then that would be brilliant."
