Cross Country To Open Season as Hosts of Belmont Opener
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's and women's cross country teams will host the Belmont Opener on Friday, September 2 at Percy Warner Park in Nashville to start the 2011 season. The women's four kilometer race will is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. CT, while the men's five kilometer race will begin at 6:00 p.m. CT.
On both the men's and women's side, 11 teams will be in competition on Friday. Belmont will be running varsity squads, as well as an alumni team. Atlantic Sun foes Kennesaw State and Lipscomb will be in attendance, as will Tennessee, who was ranked fifth by USTFCCCA in the South Region for the 2011 preseason.
Both Belmont squads found themselves in the top 15 of this year's preseason regional rankings. The men garnered the 11th spot, behind only Kennesaw State in eighth and North Florida in 10th amongst A-Sun competitors. The women were ranked 15th as one of three A-Sun teams in the South Regional Top 15.
