Ernst Named to Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team

MACON, Ga. – After a stellar debut season as a member of the Belmont women's basketball team, freshman Molly Ernst (Louisville, Ky.) was named to the 2011 Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.  She is the first Bruin named to the All-Freshman team since the 2008-09 season.

Ernst spent her entire rookie campaign second on the team in scoring, averaging 10.1 points per game.  She led Belmont in scoring eight times and contributed in double digits on 15 occasions.  One of the A-Sun's sharpest three-point shooters, she spent the season ranked among the top three in the league in three-point field goals made per game (2.8) and three-point field-goal percentage (.396).  Ernst opened the season with an outstanding performance at the Winthrop Classic, going on to be the only freshman named to the All-Tournament Team.  Her efforts saw her earn the Atlantic Sun's inaugural Newcomer of the Week award the following week.

The Louisville, Ky., native has also made waves the entire season in the national spotlight, spending the entire season ranked in the top-45 of three point shooters among all NCAA Division I players.  Ernst is currently ranked 20th in three-point field goals per game and 42nd in three-point field-goal percentage.

"It is an honor for our program to have Molly named to the A-Sun All-Freshman Team.  She is one of the best pure shooters in the conference and has developed tremendously since the beginning of the season," said Head Coach Brittney Ezell.

"I am sure Molly will be the first to mention the fact that her teammates' ability to get her open, deliver the ball to her and their confidence in her has made this honor possible.  We are very proud to have Molly in our program."
