Ezell Featured in Nashville City Paper Examination of New 3-point Line for Women's Hoops
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont women's basketball head coach Brittney Ezell was recently interviewed by the Nashville City Paper regarding the NCAA Women's Basketball Rules Committee's decision to move the women's three-point line back one foot to 20 feet, 9 inches for 2011-12 season.
The move would make the men's and women's 3-point lines identical in distance. A poll of all three divisions last season in the sport reflected that most attempts and makes were from behind the men's three-point arc instead of the current 19-foot, 9-inch line. The 20-foot, 9-inch three-point line has been used in collegiate men's basketball since the 2008-09 season.
Reporter Jerome Boettcher discussed the move with Ezell and Vanderbilt head coach Melanie Balcomb. Ezell, who is entering her second year at the helm of the program at Belmont, also reflected on her playing days at Franklin High School and the University of Alabama and her reliance on three-point shooting.
