Ezell Adds One for 2010-11 Campaign

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- New Belmont women's basketball head coach Brittney Ezell announced the signing of transfer Katie Brooks for the 2010-11 season.

"We are thrilled with Katie's decision to attend Belmont University as part of the women's basketball program," Ezell said. "Katie has great size, a high skill level and an incredible understanding of the game from the point guard position. In addition to her athletic abilities, Katie is a highly motivated student and a solid person. With her redshirt year, due to transfer regulations, I have no doubt that she will be a leader in our program for years to come. We feel that Katie Brooks is a wonderful fit for Belmont."

Brooks, a 5-9 guard, comes to the Bruins after a highly decorated two years at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. She was the Retrievers' third-leading scorer for two consecutive seasons, averaging 8.8 points per game over her time at UMBC. A two-time America East Rookie of the Week selection, Brooks averaged 9.3 points per game in her first season. She also second on the team in assists and averaged 3.3 rebounds per game. Brooks, who went on to set UMBC's program record for free throws made in a single game, was twice named America East Player of the Game as a freshman and was named to the Seton Hall Basketball Classic All-Tournament Team.

A native of Maryville, Tenn., she stood out at Heritage High, garnering 2008 Blount County Player of the Year and Blount Today Player of the Year honors. A four-time All-County, All-District and All-Tournament selection, Brooks also earned All-State honors as a senior. The second all-time leading scorer at HHS, she netted more than 1,900 points and helped the team to the regular season District 4AAA title in 2008, where was named league MVP.

Brooks joins true freshman Molly Ernst (Louisville, Ky.) who also will be joining the Bruins next season.
