Women's Basketball Wraps Sunshine State Swing at Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Belmont women's basketball team (3-11, 2-1 A-Sun) will look to extend its conference win streak to two games on its final leg of a stop in the Sunshine State. The Bruins face off against Jacksonville (3-10, 1-1 A-Sun) on the road Wednesday evening.
Jacksonville picked up its second consecutive win on Monday night against Lipscomb. The Dolphins needed an overtime period to defeat the Lady Bisons, 81-75. JU stands at 3-10 overall and is 1-1 in Atlantic Sun play. JU is led in scoring by Crystal Bell, who is averaging 12.2 points per game. Jade Cargill leads the team in rebounds, grabbing 6.9 per outing.
Belmont leads the all-time series 14-3 and the teams split their meetings last season.
The Bruins used fiery shooting throughout the first half to handily defeat North Florida, 54-37, on Monday evening, snapping a five-game skid and improving the team to 2-1 in Atlantic Sun play. Sophomore Molly Ernst (Louisville, Ky.) led the Bruins with a game-high 17 points. Senior Haley Nelson (Scottsboro, Ala.) notched her fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Freshman Adrienne Tarrence (Bowling Green, Ky.) notched the lone block of the contest.
Three Bruins continue to make their presence felt in NCAA Division I statistics this week (as of 1/1). Nelson continues to stand among the best statistically among all NCAA Division I players in five category. Her highest rankings 74th in field-goal percentage (49.4), and 76th in blocked shots per game (1.8). She is also ranked 191st in points per game (14.5), 203rd in steals per game (2.2), and 245th in rebounds per game (7.1). Redshirt junior Katie Brooks (Maryville, Tenn.) makes per debut this week, coming in at 254th in assist-to-turnover ratio (0.98) and 283rd in assists per game (3.0). Ernst is ranked 169th in three-point field goals per game (1.8).
