NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The awards continue to roll in for Belmont women's basketball senior Haley Nelson (Scottsboro, Ala.) after her stellar play over the weekend. On Tuesday, she was named Player of the Week by the Atlantic Sun Conference. It is the second time in her career she has received the honor.
Earlier this week, Nelson earned the CollegeSportsMadness.com's Atlantic Sun Player of the Week nod, a first in her career.
Nelson shined in a pair of conference matchups at home last week, recording her seventh and eighth double doubles of the season. Against Florida Gulf Coast, the Scottsboro, Ala., native led the Bruins with 17 points on 58.3 percent shooting and a game-high 13 rebounds in a near upset of the undefeated Eagles. Two days later, Nelson notched her third consecutive double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds en route to helping the Bruins hand Stetson its first loss in Atlantic Sun play, snapping a 10-game win streak.
For the week, Nelson averaged 17 points and 11.5 rebounds. She also finished with six steals, three blocks, and two assists during the span.
Nelson also continues to stand among the best statistically among all NCAA Division I players in a whopping six categories. Her highest rankings are 15th in double doubles (8), 44th in field-goal percentage (.516) and 86th in blocked shots per game (1.7). She is also ranked 141st in rebounds per game (7.9), 186th in points per game (14.5), and 218th in steals per game (2.1).
