Nelson Earns A-Sun Player of the Week Nod for Third Consecutive Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On the heels of collecting her 11th and 12th double doubles of the season, Belmont women's basketball senior Haley Nelson (Scottsboro, Ala.) earned Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors for the third consecutive week.  It marks the fourth time in her career she has received the honor and makes her only the second Bruin to garner the recognition three times in a row.

Earlier this week, Nelson was tabbed A-Sun Player of the Week by both CollegeSportsMadness.com and NetScouts.com.

The Scottsboro, Ala., native's outstanding performance over the weekend helped the Bruins cement their hold on third place in the Atlantic Sun.  Against UNF, she scored 14 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.  Two days later against Jacksonville, Nelson matched her career-high with a game-high 22 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

For the week, Nelson averaged 58.6 percent from the hardwood and shot at a 50 percent clip at the charity stripe.  She also pulled down 25 rebounds and recorded eight assists, seven blocks, and four steals.

Nelson also continues to stand among the best statistically among all NCAA Division I players in a whopping six categories.  Her highest rankings are fourth in double doubles (12), 28th in field-goal percentage (.532) and 40th in blocked shots per game (2.1).  She is also ranked 79th in rebounds per game (8.7), 136th in points per game (15.3), and 222nd in steals per game (2.0).

Belmont returns to action on Saturday for part two of the Battle of the Boulevard at rival Lipscomb.  Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m. and the matchup can be seen live on ESPN3.
