Battle of the Boulevard up Next for Women’s Basketball on Saturday Night
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Even with the changing of conferences, the Belmont women's basketball team (2-5) will continue its annual Battle of the Boulevard series with former Atlantic Sun rival Lipscomb (0-5) with part one slated to take place on Saturday night at Allen Arena. It will serve as the 69th meeting between the programs.
Lipscomb remains winless five games into its season with its most recent defeat coming at the hands of Ole Miss earlier this week. The Lady Bisons stand at 0-5 so far this season.
LU is led in scoring by Hannah Phillips, who is the only player averaging in double digits with 14.2 scored per outing. She also leads the team in rebounds, grabbing 6.2 per contest.
The Bruins lead the all-time series 41-28 with BU sweeping the series last year in its final season in the A-Sun.
Belmont will be on the hunt for a win to snap a two-game skid heading down the Boulevard. The Bruins dropped a heartbreaker at home to first-time opponent IUPUI earlier this week and now stand at 2-5 on the season.
BU is led in scoring by reigning OVC Newcomer of the Week Jordan Coleman (Orlando, Fla.) and senior Katie Brooks (Maryville, Tenn.), who are averaging 10.3 points per game. Coleman also leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 10.4 per contest, making her one of only two players in the OVC who are averaging a double-double. Belmont has three players knocking down 50 percent or more of their shots from behind the arc – Coleman, junior Julianne Downs (Franklin, Tenn.) and freshman Frankie Joubran (Detroit, Mich.). Sophomore Adrienne Tarrence (Bowling Green, Ky.) has been flawless at the charity stripe, hitting 14-of-14. Sophomore Katie Carroll (Lilburn, Ga.) and Coleman lead the team in steals, recording seven apiece. Redshirt freshman Blair Bryce (Red Oak, Texas) leads the team in blocks with a total of seven.
