BRENTWOOD, Tenn.- After posting her first two career double doubles last week, Belmont University women's basketball guard Jenny Roy (Brentwood, Tenn.) has been named the adidas® OVC Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday morning.
Roy began the week with a 15 point, 11 rebound game at Eastern Illinois and followed that up with a career-high 17 points and 11 rebounds at Austin Peay. Roy put some up some impressive numbers for the week all while shooting an efficient 11-of-14 from the floor. Roy led the Bruins or tied for the team lead in scoring and rebounding in each game and against Austin Peay she dished out a team-high five assists.
"Our team is very proud of Jenny for her recognition as OVC Player of the Week. She is a relentless competitor and plays very hard on both sides of the floor. Her two double doubles this past week were crucial to our team's success," said Belmont Head Coach Cameron Newbauer.
The second year guard helped guide Belmont to a 2-0 start in conference play for the first time since the 2012-13 season and the Bruins have won eight of their last nine overall. Over her past four games, Roy is averaging 12.5 points and 9.8 rebounds.
For Roy, this is her first time receiving the honor.
Roy and the Bruins return to action this Thursday, Jan. 5 when they welcome the defending OVC regular season champion UT Martin Skyhawks for special 4 p.m. Central time tilt. Thursday's matchup will be broadcast live on ESPNU and marks the first ever nationally televised Belmont women's basketball game at the Curb Event Center.
