NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Belmont University women's basketball forward Kylee Smith (Alpharetta, Ga.) was named the College Sports Madness Ohio Valley Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the organization announced Monday morning.
Smith did a little bit of everything in helping guide the Bruins to a pair of conference victories this past week, averaging 18.5 points per game, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists. Smith began the week by scoring 16 points on the road at Jacksonville State, including nine points down the stretch in the fourth quarter, and the eventual game-winning shot with 11 seconds left. Against Tennessee Tech in a home matchup this past Saturday, Smith continued her impressive offensive effort with 21 points and a career-best eight assists. Smith was perfect for the line (8-8) on the week and finished the
week shooting .480 from the floor which included five three-pointers.
The Vanderbilt transfter paces the Bruins with 14.3 points per game for the season and ranks second on the team with 70 assists.
For Smith this is the second time in her Belmont career earning the honor, she also earned the distinction on Feb. 8, 2016.
The Bruins resume conference play this Saturday, Jan. 28 when they travel to nearby Tennessee State for a 5:30 p.m. Central time tilt on the road against the Tigers.
