Carley Kuhns joins the sidelines of the Belmont women's basketball program for her third season in 2012. She serves as the team's academic coordinator, as well as works with compliance, player development, and recruiting.
“Coach Kuhns is one of the brightest young minds in the women’s game. Her ability to teach and communicate is remarkable for such a young coach,” Ezell said. “She relates to the players on their level and has such a gentle, yet demanding way of holding them accountable to the high standards of our program.”
“She is an incredible mix of youthful exuberance and wisdom beyond her years. Carley is a student of the game and possesses a willingness to better herself daily. I have no doubt that Coach Kuhns has the makings of an incredible head coach but I hope to hold on to her for quite a while longer. I lean heavily on Carley during the season and she has never let me down.”
Kuhns came to the Bruins after completing a two-year graduate assistantship at Valdosta State. While with the Lady Blazers, she assisted with various components of the program. Within one month of joining the Bruin staff, Kuhns was named to the prestigious Gulf South Conference All-Decade Second Team for her stellar career on the hardwood at Valdosta State.
A former student-athlete at Valdosta State, Kuhns received numerous honors during her collegiate career, including becoming the first Lady Blazer since 2001 to be named a Kodak/State Farm WBCA Honorable Mention All-American. She also recorded 1,000 career points and was a two-time First Team All-Gulf South Conference selection. Kuhns, a two-time captain, also helped VSU earn a trip to the NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen during her senior campaign with a 26-6 overall record. She led the team in scoring, averaging 10.4 points per game, and shot .373 percent from behind the three-point arc that season.
Kuhns earned her Bachelor's in Physical Education from Valdosta State in 2008 and completed her Master's in Higher Education Leadership in 2010.
A newlywed, the former Carley Peterson, was married in October 2011 to Matt Kuhns.
