MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Belmont women's golf team finished in 15th place at the Memphis Women's Invitational held this week at Ridgeway Country Club in Memphis, Tennessee.
The tournament was shortened to 36-holes due to impending bad weather that was forecasted to hit the Memphis area on Tuesday. After the second round was suspended Monday night due to darkness, the teams returned Tuesday morning to complete the round. Once the second round was completed, tournament officials decided to cancel the third round and make the 36-holes results final.
Belmont shot a team score of 329 in the second round to finish with a 36-hole mark of 666. Illinois was the team champion with a final score of 615.
The Bruins were led by junior Jennifer Newman. The Brentwood, Tennessee native carded a 79 in the second round to finish in a tie for 37th place with a score of 161. Sophomore Shay Sullivan tied for 52nd place with a 36-hole score of 165. Other Belmont scores from the tournament included: sophomore Janet Steen (T-58th, 167), sophomore Megan Murphy (T-75th, 173), and sophomore Patricia Masick (T-85th, 176).
The women's golf team will wrap up its 2010 fall season next Monday and Tuesday, November 1-2, at the UAB Fall Beach Blast in Gulf Shores, AL.
