Women's Golf Finishes Fourth at the Ann Rhoads Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Belmont women's golf team opened their 2012 spring season with a fourth place finish at Ann Rhoads Invitational held this week at the Oxmoor Valley Golf Club in Birmingham, Alabama.

In Tuesday's final round, Belmont shot 319 to finish in fourth place with a 36-hole team score of 671.  It was BU's fourth top-five finish of the season.  They finished 27 shots behind tournament champion Indianapolis, who is ranked #17 in NCAA Division II.  Future OVC foe Tennessee Tech placed second, while Methodist College of North Carolina finished in third place.

The Bruins had three golfers finish among the top-25.  Junior Janet Steen led the way as she finished in sixth place with a score of 162.  It was her fourth straight top-eighth finish.  Freshman Sydney Hudson posted her fourth top-20 finish as she tied for 17th with a score of 167.  Senior Kelly Maguigan tied for 21st place with a mark of 168.  Other Belmont scores included: Patricia Masick (T-41st, 176) and Megan Murphy (T-46th, 178). 

Three Bruins competed as individuals in the tournament:  Morgan McQuary tied for 26th at 170; Jennifer Newman tied for 52nd 179, while Evin Edens tied for 62nd place at 183.

The women's golf team has a couple of weeks off before returning to the course on March 9-10 as they play Austin Peay in a dual match in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
