Womens Soccer Opens 2010 Slate on the Road
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's soccer team will travel to Missouri this weekend for a pair of contests to open the 2010 season. The Bruins take on the University of Missouri on Friday night before facing off against Southeast Missouri State on Sunday afternoon.
Friday night's contest between Belmont and the Tigers of Mizzou will be the first time the two programs have met. The back-to-back Big 12 Champions finished the 2009 season with a 13-6-3 overall record and a 7-1-2 league mark. The Tigers return 21 letterwinners for last season including senior forward Alysha Bonnick, the team's second leading scorer from one year ago.
The Bruins have not seen action against the Redhawks of Southeast Missouri State since 2002. SEMO brings in a 2-0 series advantage into Sunday afternoon's match. The Redhawks, who were picked to finish seventh by the coaches of the Ohio Valley Conference, will look to All-OVC selections senior forward Ashley Runion, sophomore defender Hayley Abbott and classmate Bobby Jo Schlick to lead them offensively this season. SEMO wrapped the 2009 season with an 8-7-3 overall record and a 2-3-3 mark.
BU will open at home on Friday, August 27, hosting first-time opponent Clemson at the Whitten Soccer Complex. Match time is slated for 7 p.m. CT.
