Womens Soccer Hits the Road for Atlantic Sun Action
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's soccer team (1-7, 0-2 A-Sun) will travel this weekend for its first pair of Atlantic Sun matchups on the road. The Bruins travel to USC Upstate (2-7, 0-1 A-Sun) for a contest on Friday night and finish the weekend at intrastate rival ETSU (5-2-1, 1-0 A-Sun) on Sunday afternoon.
USC Upstate will look to make strides toward the middle of the pack in the A-Sun when it hosts Belmont on Friday. The Spartans, who are currently in 10th place in the league split action last weekend, falling to Campbell 2-0 before rebounding with a 2-0 win at Alabama State. Danielle White leads Upstate in goals scored with two. The team's leading goalkeeper is Rachel Collins, who is sporting a 2.01 GAA, a .811 save percentage and a 1-6-0 record after logging over 626 minutes in goal. Belmont has yet to concede a contest to USC Upstate after three meetings. The Bruins have also only allowed one Spartan goal in those three previous matchups.
ETSU, who is currently in fifth place in the Atlantic Sun race, will look to get a leg up in an all-time series that is tied at 5-5 between the programs. The Lady Bucs have an overall record of 5-2-1 heading into this weekend. Ramey Kerns and Terri Miller lead ETSU in scoring after tallying of five and three goals, respectively. Megan Masch is the team's leading netminder. She has logged over 667 minutes in goal, a GAA of 0.67, and a save percentage of .750.
The Bruins are looking to extend their opening road A-Sun conference win streak to four consecutive games after this weekend. Belmont has a 6-4 mark under Head Coach Lisa Howe on its first weekend of Atlantic Sun road play. Additionally, the team has won five of its last six matchups on this weekend.
Belmont played one of its strongest second halves to date on Sunday against Kennesaw State. After going down 2-0 early in the first half, the Bruins came out with a vengeance in the second stanza. BU dominated in shots, 14-2, and corner kicks, 9-1, in just that half. Senior Jayme Trocino (Franklin, Tenn.) finished the day with four shots to lead the Bruins. Unfortunately, the effort was not enough and Belmont fell to KSU, 2-0.
