Women’s Soccer Travels to Florida for Final Regular Season Road Trip
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's soccer team (3-10, 2-5 A-Sun) hits the road for the final time during the regular season this weekend. The Bruins make a stop at Florida Gulf Coast (8-4-2, 5-0-2 A-Sun) on Friday evening before closing the trip at Stetson (6-8-1, 3-3-1 A-Sun) on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles will be looking to keep their Atlantic Sun record unblemished when they host the Bruins on Friday evening. FGCU is currently 5-0-2 in the league and sports an 8-4-2 overall mark. Florida Gulf Coast is led in scoring by Lindsay Haw and Jessica Swartzentruber, who have netted three goals apiece. The team's leading goalkeeper is Stephanie Powers, who has logged over 1279 minutes between the posts. She also has a GAA of 0.56, grabbed 49 saves and eight shutouts.
The Eagles lead the all-time series, 2-1.
The Hatters are holding down sixth-place in the Atlantic Sun with a record of 3-3-1 and an overall mark of 6-8-1. SU will be looking to get back on the positive side after earning a tie and a loss in its last two outings. Stetson is led in scoring by Tessa Gavilsky and Courtney Jenista, who have each netted six goals. The team's goalkeeper, Andrea Garavaglia, has logged over 1,367 minutes. She has also recorded a GAA of 2.37 and 84 saves.
Belmont narrowly leads the all-time series, 6-5-1.
The Bruins head to Florida after being edged in double overtime on the final day of a three-match homestand at Whitten Soccer Complex last Sunday. Belmont, who has dropped three of its last four matchups, fell 2-1 to visiting North Florida in the 107th minute of action. BU's lone goal was netted by junior Jamie Loftis (Hermitage, Tenn.), breaking the ice of the match that went scoreless in the first stanza. Freshman Nicole Berner (Randolph, N.J.) went on to record a season-high six saves in the effort.
