Women’s Soccer Berner Selected to Attend NCAA Career in Sports Forum

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Belmont women's soccer freshman Nicole Berner (Randolph, N.J.) was recently selected to attend the annual Career in Sports Forum hosted by the NCAA.  Out of more than 1,100 applicants, she was one of 303 chosen to attend the four-day event in June.  Berner is also one of only two student-athletes from the Atlantic Sun Conference and nine from universities in the state of Tennessee to receive the honor.

The NCAA Career in Sports Forum is a four-day event through which selected student-athletes will explore and be educated on careers in sports, with a primary focus on intercollegiate athletics.  Through the use of dual tracks, participants will examine the key functions of a coach or administrator within sports. Foundational skills such as communication, networking, recruiting, managing culture, transitioning and budgeting will be covered with participants

"I am very excited that the committee selected Nicole as one of the 330 student-athletes to be chosen to attend the NCAA Career in Sports Forum," said Head Coach Heather Henson.  "This is a great honor for Nicole, as well as Belmont University, to be selected for this event."

Berner, a native of Randolph, N.J., will participate in the administrator track.  This track will cover the internal and external operations of an intercollegiate athletics department, which includes, but not limited to: academics, communications, compliance, development, event management, marketing, etc.

"I'm very excited to have been selected for this NCAA conference. It will provide great information and guidance as I plan my future and career," Berner said.  "It's a great opportunity to interact with other student-athletes from across the country, administrators, and NCAA personnel. I'm thrilled to be representing Belmont athletics as well as women's soccer."

The 2011 NCAA Career in Sports Forum runs June 12-15 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
