Women’s Soccer Earns NSCAA Academic Award for Seventh Time
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – For the seventh consecutive year, the Belmont women's soccer team has earned one of the most prestigious academic awards in the sport at the collegiate level. The Bruins, in their first year with head coach Heather Henson at the helm, received the National Soccer College Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Women's Team Academic Award, marking the eighth time in program history in which BU has garnered the recognition.
"I am very proud of our team's efforts," said Henson. "This is a testament to our girls' dedication to excelling as both a student and an athlete. They continue to shine on and off the field and Belmont University has proven to be a great fit for each of them as student-athletes."
Belmont joins 570 other women's soccer programs who posted team grade point averages of 3.0 or higher for the 2011 season to receive the honor. Every women's program in the Atlantic Sun received the honor, with the Bruins earning the second-highest team GPA at 3.41. To qualify for the award, a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. A total of 789 soccer teams (218 men, 571 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2010-11 academic year.
