Women's Soccer Earns NSCAA Academic Award for Fifth Straight Year
Dec. 2, 2009
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - For the sixth time in program history, the Belmont women's soccer program has earned the NSCAA/adidas College Women's Team Academic Award. This year marks the fifth consecutive season the Bruins have garnered the honor.
"I am proud of the academic achievements of this team," said Head Coach Lisa Howe. "At Belmont, we recruit scholar-athletes who do not have to change their study habits when they get to college. The young ladies do a good job of adjusting to college life and using good time management skills. I couldn't be more pleased with the balance they have as students and athletes."
Belmont joins 328 other women's soccer programs who posted team GPA's of 3.0 or higher for the 2008-09 season to receive the honor. BU is also one of six Atlantic Sun programs to earn the distinction. To qualify for the award, a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. A total of 570 soccer teams across all three divisions of men's and women's soccer (141 men, 329 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2008-09 academic year.
The Bruins finished the 2009 campaign with a 10-6-4 record and claimed the program's first-ever share of the Atlantic Sun regular season title. Third-seeded Belmont, helmed by A-Sun Coach of the Year Lisa Howe, advanced to the Atlantic Sun Tournament championship game for the second year in a row.
