Softball Goes 0-2 in Second Day of War Eagle Classic

AUBURN, Ala. - - The offensive struggles continued for Belmont during the second day of the War Eagle Classic on Saturday. The Bruins fell in five innings to Marshall, 0-8, in the day's first game and then lost to Georgia Southern, 0-11, in the second game. Play in the War Eagle Classic concludes Sunday morning when Belmont meets Murray State at 9 a.m.

The Bruins struggled offensively in both games, managing only one hit against Marshall and only one hit against Georgia Southern. On the day Belmont surrendered 19 runs and 23 hits in two games and was unable to find an answer offensively. The two losses dropped the Bruins to 4-9 on the season and 0-3 in the tournament. It is the first time this season that the Bruins have lost three straight games or gone 0-3 in a tournament. Belmont will look to bounce back against Murray State tomorrow as they face the Racers for the first time this season. The two teams will meet later this season in a regular season match-up at Murray State.

Belmont's two hits on the day came from senior Kelley Cash (Hudson, Ohio), who singled against Marshall, and from sophomore Becca Gift (Durham, N.C.) who doubled against Georgia Southern. The Bruins had previously struggled to generate runs, stranding runners on base. Today, however, Belmont left only five runners on base, but was unable manufacture any runs.

Following play in the War Eagle Classic, Belmont will return to Nashville for their home opener against Tennessee Tech University. Due to construction still underway at Rose Park, the game will be played on the campus of Tennessee State University in Nashville. The double-header will start at 4 p.m. with the second game scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. The Bruins wrap-up play in the War Eagle Classic with a 9 a.m. game against Murray State.
