Softball Takes on Austin Peay Wednesday Afternoon

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--- The Belmont softball team will head up the road to Clarksville, Tenn., for a 6 p.m. match-up with regional rival Austin Peay. The game will be the rubber match between the two teams who have split the season series 1-1 in two meetings in February.

The Bruins faced APSU in the final game of the inaugural Belmont/Hampton Inn-Brentwood Spring Classic during the opening weekend of the season and fell, 5-9, to the Lady Govs. Belmont got revenge against Austin Peay the following weekend, beating the Lady Govs in the final game of their home tournament. The game tonight will be a single-game for regional bragging rights between the two programs that have met 34 times in series history.

Belmont is 3-4 against teams from the Ohio Valley Conference this season, splitting the series with Austin Peay, Tennessee State, and SIU Edwardsville and falling to Murray State in the War Eagle Classic. The Bruins will face two more OVC members this season, as well as making trip to Murray, Ky., for a rematch with Murray State. Belmont will take on Southeast Missouri State in a double-header in Nashville on Thursday.

The double-header against SEMO will be played at Tennessee State University, with the first game scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The Bruins will be off over the weekend before beginning conference play next weekend on the road at A-Sun leading USC Upstate and East Tennessee State. Those games will be on Friday and Saturday, March 25-26th. Belmont will also travel to Bowling Green, Ky., for a single-game against Western Kentucky on March 22. That game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

There will be no livestats available for this evening's game at Austin Peay. Fans can still follow the action through the GameChanger program.
