Women's Tennis Drops Match to Murray State 4-3
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team lost a heartbreaker to visiting Murray State 4-3 in a match played Saturday night indoors at the Wildwood Tennis Club in Brentwood.
The Bruins picked up the first point of the match as they captured two of the three doubles matches. Murray State won at the number one position, but BU's Natalia Nunes and Catherine Holliday won at number three over Taylor Vick and Carla Suga 8-3. The match at number two went to a tiebreaker and Belmont's Laura Stack and Lindsay Bennett beat Alexis Webb and Lindsey Wiseman 9-8 (11-9 in the tiebreaker).
In singles, both teams split the first four singles matches. Murray State picked up wins at number one and two, while Belmont won at three and four. At three, sophomore Catherine Holliday beat Lindsey Wiseman 6-2, 6-2, while Lindsay Bennett won at four over Alexis Webb 6-2, 6-4. However, the Racers got comeback wins at number five and six to clinch the 4-3 victory over the Bruins.
Belmont (1-4) is back in action next Friday at home as they host Cumberland (Tenn.) at the Wildwood Club starting at 5:00pm.
