Women's Tennis Falls 4-3 to Jacksonville at Home
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team fell short to visiting Jacksonville 4-3 in an Atlantic Sun Conference match played Friday at the Wildwood Club in Brentwood. The match was originally scheduled to be played outdoors at Centennial Sportsplex, but rain caused the match to be moved inside to the Wildwood Club.
The singles matches were contested first to start the match. Both teams picked up three victories in singles play. For Belmont, senior Abby Leatherwood won at number two over Gabriela Barton 6-3, 6-3. At number four, senior Lindsay Bennett beat Natalia Melibeu 6-4, 7-6. While at number six, junior Abbey Hogan defeated Veronique Spencer 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles, the Dolphins took control, winning all three matches and clinching the 4-3 victory over the Bruins.
Belmont (5-10, 1-5) returns to the court Saturday as they host North Florida. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:00am at Centennial Sportsplex. However, rain is in the forecast, so the match may be moved indoors. Please check BelmontBruins.com for any time and site changes.
