Women’s Track and Field Opens Indoor Season at Blue Raider Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The women's track and field team officially opened the 2011 indoor season with a short trip south to Middle Tennessee State over the weekend.  The Bruins finished with 12 top-20 finishes at the Blue Raider Invitational. 

 

On the track side, junior Caitlin Standifer (Plano, Texas) was the top Bruin place getter, winning the One Mile with a time of 5:09.81.  In the same event, junior Nicole Muldowney (Hoover, Ala.) and sophomore Kimberly Muldowney (Hoover, Ala.) took third (5:19.64) and fourth (5:20.59), respectively while senior Kara Sephel (Nashville, Tenn.) and sophomore Courtney Bishop (Nashville, Tenn.) rounded out the BU presence in the event with seventh (5:27.39) and 12th place (5:39.27) finishes, respectively. 

 

Belmont also had a strong presence in the 800m with a fourth-place finish from sophomore Fallon Dickens (Nashville, Tenn.) after she crossed the line with a time of 2:25.92.  In her collegiate debut, freshman Ge'Cobi Pittman (Long Beach, Calif.) finished 18th in the 55m preliminaries (8.04) and 25th in the 200m (27.55).  Redshirt freshman Megan Bradley (Nampa, Idaho) took 17th in the 400m (1:06.23) in her first collegiate event since returning from injury.  Freshman Sarah Wrieden (Middletown, Md.) earned a 12th place finish (9.25) in the 55m Hurdles.

 

In the field events, freshman Jilian Linklater (Lake Orion, Mich.) was the team's top finisher, taking third in the high jump with a mark of 1.57m (5'8").  Classmate Brittany Woods (Franklin, Tenn.) took fourth in the same event with a mark of 1.52 (5'2").  Wrieden also finished fifth (5.21m (17'1.25") in the long jump.

 

Belmont returns to action at the Indiana Relays on January 29-30.
